Mr. McDonald’s Message

August 2017

Dear El Toro Parents and Families,

Welcome to the 2017 – 2018 school year! This is a year of “Transformation and Realization” for El Toro. The campus is being transformed into a Health Science Academy and soon we will realize the complete transformation for our amazing school. We are continuing to have new construction being completed here at El Toro. The construction crew started the day after school was out in June and haven’t stopped yet. I have no doubt that our campus will be a shining star for Morgan Hill Unified School District for years to come. Our students will lead by example and show our community the importance of academic and social success. I am thrilled to welcome three new staff members to our family this year. Mrs. Andrea Silva will be teaching 5th grade in room 8, Mrs. Crystal Martin will be teaching 3rd grade in room 25, and we welcome back Mrs. Carrie Williams who will be team teaching 4th grade with Ms. Corcoran in room 13. When you see either of these lovely ladies on campus, please join me in giving them a warm welcome! A few staff members have new roles. Ms. Seaton will be our Health Science TOSA (Teacher on Special Assignment) and will help develop a powerful Health Science program for El Toro. Ms. Corcoran will teaching 2 days in the classroom at 4th grade and 3 days as our Reading Intervention Specialist in room 14.

Elementary years are among the most memorable and I am pleased to share with you that all El Toro staff members have been designing, planning, and organizing curriculum to further enhance your child’s educational pathway. Kindergarten and first grade students will be composing opinion pieces, second and third grade students will be using technology and keyboarding to produce and publish masterpieces, while fourth and fifth grade students will be conducting research and writing about content-area topics. Our collective intention is to always improve teaching strategies in effort to raise student expectations for learning.

Beginning in my second year as the lead learner on campus, my personal mission is to engage with all students and families as we partner in this educational journey together. Helping each individual achieve their greatest potential is one of our core values achieved through identifying student’s individual needs and providing appropriate enrichments and interventions. We believe that students thrive with a balance of choice and structure, therefore it is necessary to explicitly teach clear expectations.

We want each and every parent plugged in at El Toro Health Science Academy. This year, we have several opportunities for you to join us. The Home & School Club is a wonderful way for you to get connected to the El Toro family. Room 26 will be the new home for our H & SC to hold meetings, plan activities and events, a new parent job board will be posted for you to help resource a teacher, and much more. The room is still in transition, but the best way to get involved is to go to the website at or drop the Home and School Club an email at  Together, we can make a difference!

This is going to be a GREAT year at El Toro Health Science Academy! Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to your child’s teacher, our amazing office staff, or myself. I look forward to seeing you all at Back-to-School Night on August 30, 2017!

It is always a GREAT day to be at El Toro!
